S1: Session 1: Keynote Academia - Localization of Things

Room: 3J

Abstract

The availability of positional information is essential in numerous wireless applications including crowdsensing, autonomous driving, and Internet-of-Things. The process of locating, tracking, and navigating any possible collaborative or non-collaborative nodes (sensors, vehicles, and objects) is referred to as Localization-of-Things (LoT). Our work relies on statistics, optimization, and communication theory, and approaches LoT from different perspectives: theoretical framework, cooperative algorithms, network operations, and network experimentation. This talk will give an overview of LoT and provide our recent research results in this exciting field.

Andrea Conti is a Professor at the University of Ferrara and Research Affiliate at the MIT Wireless Information and Network Sciences Laboratory. His research interests involve theory and experimentation of wireless systems and networks including network localization and distributed sensing. He received the HTE Puskás Tivadar Medal, the IEEE Communications Society’s Stephen O. Rice Prize in the field of Communications Theory, and the IEEE Communications Society’s Fred W. Ellersick Prize. Dr. Conti has served as editor for IEEE journals, as well as chaired international conferences. He has been elected Chair of the IEEE Communications Society’s Radio Communications Technical Committee. He is a co-founder and elected Secretary of the IEEE Quantum Communications & Information Technology Emerging Technical Subcommittee. He is an elected Fellow of the IET and has been selected as an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer.

S4: Session 4 - Keynote Industry. Key Technical Measures To Make Indoor Navigation Correct and Usable

Along with the development of indoor positioning technology, indoor navigation tends to be a more popular service in modern smart buildings. While, since the user case in indoor environment is significantly difference from outdoor environment, there are several key factors prohibiting the indoor navigation usable. On road net data, trans-level positioning, AR-navigation, indoor search and third party data connections are key factors. Comprehensive measures have been developed to make indoor navigation a key tool in smart building.

Yang Zhang graduated from Tsinghua University with a bachelor's degree and received his master's degree from Paristech in France and the University of Illinois at Champaign in the United States.

Mr. Zhang founded Palmap Intelligence Co., Ltd. (PALMAP) in 2012 and has served as the chairman and CEO since then. Under his leadership, Palmap Intelligence has developed the leading indoor location based solution provider in China. Palmap is serving more than 3000 venues across China, using indoor map, positioning and navigation technology. Palmap is also received investment by famous ventures, with totally 25 million USD. Under the leadership of Mr.Zhang, Palmap is the first that deployed indoor location solution for hospital, exhibition center and parking garage. Meanwhile, Palmap is maintain the largest indoor map database across China, providing data for Tencent, AutoNavi, Alibaba, etc. Palmap also partners with Tencent and Alibaba promoting indoor location solution in multiple sectors. Mr. Zhang has been awarded many honors, such as the seventh batch of Thousands of People Plan entrepreneurs in Shanghai, the "Special Prize" for Shanghai Scientific and Technological Progress, the cover figure of the first issue of Huaxia Financial Xin Weekly and so on. Mr. Zhang has served as Secretary-General of the Shanghai Alumni Association of the University of Illinois and became a member of the Asia America Multi-technology Association (AAMA). He is currently a member of the Tsinghua Entrepreneur and Executive Club(TEEC). He also served as president of the Chinese Students and Scholars Association of the University of Illinois at Champaign, and served as director of the American Association of Chinese Scientists and Engineers.
